This inn could not be fully enjoyed without honoring the first female to practice law in Geneseo, Mabel Welton Brown. This 11 x 18 guestroom has a queen bed and shares our adjacent showpiece washroom. Mabel's parents renovated Geneseo’s first public schoolhouse in 1914, transforming it into this historic home she cherished for nearly 100 years. Her strong-willed mother, daughter of longstanding Henry County Clerk Frank Graves Welton, fired architect Frank Lloyd Wright over a disagreement involving lack of closet space. Mabel's father was a prominent international lawyer, and her mother was the proprietor of an antique store. Mabel travelled extensively with her father, allowing her to meet well known figures such as President William Howard Taft. Mabel had a passion for historic preservation, philanthropy, patriotism and... the color pink.
